Praia da Viola is a small wild beach, located on the north coast of the island of São Miguel, we begin our trail, in the freguseia da Maia, next to the beach / port of that locality, we will walk in most of our rail, next to the coast , where flanked by stones, we are enchanted by the sound of the sea.
Our first stop is next to some water tanks, where in the old days the women went to this place to wash their clothes, which during conversations often spoke of the day, the worries of lives, memories, much more, as one of the poems of a local author tells us.
Further on and in the middle of a rock, we will find a spring, in which the places baptized it of Holy Water, for the clarity and freshness of the same until we can freshen up. We continue our journey, passing through several small gardens, where you can see different types of crops depending on the season of the year we are in.
Along several cliffs we can see different water mills, most of which are still in ruins, others still preserved, in which in ancient times the population brought the corn in sacks, sometimes carried on the back or by animals, to be ground and later to have flour to make bread that in those times was the main food of many families.
When arriving at Praia da Vila, which may be the high point of our trail, we come across an environment, a bit wild, because it is not easy to get here, makes this beach not very crowded or known by the people of São Miguel, in this place we will pause to appreciate the beauty of the beach and enjoy the atmosphere and enjoy the nature around us, as well as the various water mills, already in ruinhas that are next to the beach.
We will continue our walk to the waterfall of the Viola, being near the said beach, is believed to have its name to the Beach, it is a small waterfall, compared to other cascades that the island of São Miguel has, it is not less beautiful.
