Salto do Cabrito Hiking Tour


Salto do Cabrito is the name of one or just the most beautiful and splendid waterfall on the island of S. Miguel, located in the central part of the island, we take you to the Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande, where you can see fumaroles, a caldera with hot water and the thermal baths of that city. On this trail, we will cross bridges and streams, which will take us to Salto do Cabrito, where we can see the splendor of the this waterfall, with 40m high.

Hiking Tour

In the Thermals of the Ribeira Grande, take the opportunity to appreciate the place, where its possible to see some fumaroles and the Thermal house of the City Ribeira Grande, as well the area ,where some regional dishes are made in Volcanic soil.

Then we will walk along a path lined by Cryptomes, to the old hydroelectric power station of Fajã do Redondo (deactivated), we cross a metallic bridge, where we will be accompanied by a small river, which leads us to the beginning of the waterfall.

After descending a steep metallic stairs, we come across the Salto do Cabrito Hydroelectric Power Plant (active), which indicates the beautiful Salto do Cabrito Waterfall (photo), height to appreciate its beauty where we can see the splendor of the Salto do Salto Cabrito, with 40m of height, presenting crystalline waters that invite us to baths.

After our short pause it is time to leave the waterfall behind and we continue on until we reach the road, where we will find the Geothermal Center of Pico Vermelho and then we continue towards the Thermals of Ribeira Grande where we finish our circuit, along the way, we dare, small streams and we see some fumaroles that recently began to come to the surface, it is possible to pass along several fields where the cows grazing quietly and see different species of endemic plants.
